Invicta FC set to return on July 2, will feature six fights
Invicta FC, the world’s premier combat sports organization for women, returns to action Thursday, July 2.
Invicta FC 40 will take place behind closed doors in Kansas City without fans or media. This is the promotion’s first event since the COVID-19 pandemic halted MMA around the world.
On Tuesday, June 9, the promotion issued a news release. Among other details, Invicta acknowledged its commitment to the safety of its fighters, their corners, staff and commission officials. In order to follow its mandate, Invicta noted that all participants will be tested for COVID-19 prior to the event.
The event is to be held at Memorial Hall and will feature six bouts. The main event will see strawweights Emily Ducote (8-6) and Juliana Lima (10-6) go head to head. Ducote is coming off a November split decision loss to Kanako Murata at Invicta FC 38. Lima was also unsuccessful in her last fight at Invicta FC: Phoenix Series 1, where she lost a unanimous decision to Brianna Van Buren. Both of these ladies will be hungry to avenge their previous losses.
The rest of the fight card is as follows:
- Atomweight: Alesha Zappitella vs. Lindsey VanZandt
- Flyweight: DeAnna Bennett vs. Victoria Leonardo
- Featherweight: Chelsea Chandler vs. Liv Parker
- Flyweight: Claire Guthrie vs. Laura Anderson
- Strawweight: Genia Goodin vs. Shelby Koren
Invicta FC 40 will be overseen by the Kansas Athletic Commission. The event will air live and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass at 7pm ET.
