With COVID restrictions easing, Nick Maximov is ‘preparing for SUG 14 more seriously’

Nick Maximov returns to Submission Underground on May 31 to take on Adam Fugitt at SUG 14.

Just over a month after tapping via heel hook to BJJ black belt, Joe Baize at SUG 13, Maximov is motivated more than ever. With COVID restrictions easing up, the light heavyweight prospect has been able to train much harder this time out.

“Joe Baize is a skilled black belt although I would love another go at him,” said Maximov. “I did not train much which has pushed me to get back in to the swing of things training hard each and every day.”

“As restrictions have eased up I have been training a lot, doing 2-3 workouts a day typically for hours on end. I have been preparing for SUG 14 more seriously than SUG 13, that match occurred in the thick of the virus when restrictions did not allow for regular training.”

Although staying active has not been much of an issue, bookings have been nonexistent on the regional scene. Maximov will be ready for the day regional MMA reopens, but until then, Adam Fugitt has his attention. Then, he has his sights set on doing what it takes to get to the big leagues.

“Unlike other fighters I am putting my reputation on the line doing all it takes to stay in shape to be ready for any competition that comes my way.”

Both Nick and Adam are both professional MMA fighters and jiu jitsu brown belts. To make things more exciting, they are both skilled wrestlers too. “I would have liked to fight this guy, although I am excited and ready to grapple,” said Maximov. “Being able to compete under these conditions excites me most, competition runs I my blood, it is all I know.”

Catch Nate Diaz Academy prospect Nick Maximov this Sunday on UFC Fight Pass. The SUG 14 card will air live at 6pm EST.
