Wednesday Night Wars: WWE NXT Week 26 Review

Read Time:2 Minute, 15 Second

In case you noticed I did not review NXT last week because, well, nothing happened. However, WWE made up for it this week with a banger of a show. Let’s get into it!

Tyler Breezes through Austin Theory

The first match of the night was a sleeper. I didn’t see this match getting a ton of hype online but I knew it would be good. I think Breeze is criminally underrated and we know how good Theory is.

Despite my attempt at a clever title, this was not a Breeze at all. Theory actually controlled most of the match and looked very good against Breeze. Theory’s downfall came when he grabbed Breeze’s phone and got a little too cocky. This would allow Breeze to capitalize and pin Theory clean as a whistle. This is a feud I really hope they continue because the two seem to have some great chemistry!

Roderick not Strong enough for Matt Riddle

Then in another barn burner of a match, Matt Riddle took on Roderick Strong. Interesting to note that Riddle’s partner Pete Dunne wasn’t there due to the current events happening globally.

Before the match started Strong did the “boom” with no crowd, which hurt a bit. Nonetheless, an incredible match between these two as you would expect. Hard-hitting, storytelling, great match. The interesting part happened after.

Two big wrestlers attacked Riddle and we got the managerial debut of Malcolm Bivens (also known as Stokely Hathaway). I have to be honest, I have never seen the two wrestlers he is now managing but they are huge! I am stoked (pun intended) to see Hathaway on TV. Fantastic match and it looks like Dunne and Riddle have their next challenge!

Triple H lays down the law for Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano

Then in the main event segment of the evening, Triple H came out to the ring. He called out Ciampa and Gargano to talk about their feud. He told them that he had been through all of this with Shawn Michaels and that it needed to stop.

He then announced that in two weeks that they will face off. Triple H said he would get an empty building and a referee to say “that’s it”. The two were obviously scheduled to meet at Takeover Tampa which is canceled. I can’t wait for this. I think these two fighting through an empty arena and destroying the place adds more to the match.

Grade: B+

It was a much better show this week because they actually did something! I should also mention that Io Shirai and Candice LeRae qualified for the No. 1 contender ladder match. Awesome show and hopefully they can keep it up!
