The Importance of Supercard of Honor XIV for ROH & NJPW
On April 4th, during WrestleMania weekend, the 14th edition of Supercard of Honor will take place at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida.
Last year on the G1 Supercard show, both NJPW and ROH produced a historic event in Madison Square Garden. One year later, and now this upcoming Supercard show will be a very important one for the future’s of both promotions.
ROH
2019 was arguably the worst year in ROH’s history. The signing of Marty Scrull and appointing him as booker of the promotion has seen a lot of positive momentum coming to ROH.
Supercard of Honor XIV is the perfect opportunity for ROH to once and for all take advantage of this momentum they have right now. The relationship between ROH and NJPW seems to be in a better place.
Last year’s show, G1 Supercard, showed a lot of the weakness on the ROH side, so this year’s show could be their redemption after a not so great 2019. If things go in the right direction, ROH will once again obtain the attention of fans and the wrestling world.
NJPW
2019 was a great year for NJPW in a lot of ways. After the departure of The Elite, NJPW lost their biggest U.S. draws and their American shows have not performed as they wish they would.
This upcoming Supercard show in collaboration with ROH, is just what they need to make their US expansion be on track again and make interest on their future U.S. shows.
NJPW is sending some of their wrestlers to this show knowing how important it is for it to be a success.
