The Scrap’s 2019 Holy Sh*t Moment of the Year: Jessica Andrade slams Rose Namajunas at UFC 237

We were blessed with many moments in 2019 that made us stand up in our living rooms and yell “Holy Sh*t!”
Between MMA and Pro Wrestling, it was a crazy year. Including the debut of Jon Moxley in AEW and Masvidal Knocking out Askren in record time, just to name a few.
However there is one moment, that surprised more than all. It was UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main event featured strawweight champion Rose Namajunas defending her UFC gold in the main event against hometown challenger, Jessica Andrade.

The champion dominated the first round, and was looking good going into the second. Namajunas was controlling the fight, until everything changed with 2:58 left in the round. As Rose held on to the arm to attempt a submission, Andrade literally dropped her on her head. She followed up with a strike or two, but the champion was already out.
We see tons of nasty Knockouts in the UFC, but they typically come from a strike. It is not very often we see a fighter get knocked out from a slam. The Masvidal KO was surprising because of the speed in which it happened. But this was more shocking because Rose was in the midst of a perfect performance.
Everybody watching this fight thought for sure Rose was on her way to victory. Then in a matter of seconds, everything was turned upside down, and Rio erupted as Jessica took home the gold.
This was without a doubt, the Holy Sh*t Moment of the Year!
