What should be next for Kevin Lee after KO win at UFC 244?
On Saturday, November 2nd 2019, UFC held its annual event at Madison Square Garden.
On the main card, Kevin Lee fought undefeated lightweight prospect Gregor Gillespie, finishing him by first-round knockout. Lee is looking better than ever since training at Tristar Gym. But the question is now, who should be next for ‘The MoTown Phenom’?
Here’s a few ideas I had:
Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis
This would be a fun fight. Lee vs. Pettis was supposed to happen in the past but it never came to fruition. Pettis is coming off of a decision loss to Nate Diaz back in August and has since called out UFC vet Diego Sanchez. But I definitely think that this is the better fight.
Stylistically, it’s definitely a good match-up, too. Both Lee and Pettis can handle their own in both the stand-up and on the ground. Also, they are both in similar places in their careers. Pettis took a couple losses at 155, decided to move up to welterweight. The move to 170 appears to have rejuvenated Pettis. Lee took a couple losses at 155-170, changed gyms and came back stronger.
Well see what happens, though.
Paul ‘The Irish Dragon’ Felder:
This would be another fun fight. Felder is coming off a very entertaining, split decision win over Edson Barboza at UFC 242. Felder definitely doesn’t mind a stand-and-bang kind of fight. He seems to welcome it. And he keeps coming forward. He’s a very game fighter overall. This is the kind of fight that I would like to see Kevin Lee in right now.
Stylistically, Kevin Lee probably has the edge on the ground but I think it’d be a striking match anyways. It would definitely be a fun fight for the fans and likely receives a ‘Fight of The Night’ bonus afterwards.
Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker:
This fight is pretty much interchangeable with #2. It was actually difficult to decide which one to place at #1.
Anyways, this would be a great fight for the fans. Hooker is coming off a unanimous decision win over Al Iaquinta at UFC 243. And he would serve as a solid test for Kevin Lee right now. This is another fight where Lee has the edge on the ground but it likely wouldn’t take place there. This fight would be a test of Kevin Lee’s improved striking since moving to Tristar.
All of these fights would be good scraps for the fans.
We will just have to wait and see how it plays out in the coming months!
