A Heavyweight Rematch: Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson at Bellator 231
Frank Mir (18-13-0) will face Roy “Big Country” Nelson (23-17-0) in the main event at Bellator 231 this Friday, October 25. The heavyweight bout will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
The clash between Mir and Nelson will be a rematch from a fight that first happened at UFC 130 in 2011. On that night, Mir beat Nelson by unanimous decision in a one-sided fight 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26. Even so, Mir ended up with a fractured jaw and broken ribs due to Nelson’s punching power.
Mir, 40, has been unsuccessful in his fights since joining Bellator in 2018 when he fought Fedor Emelianenko and lost via KO/TKO at 0:48 of Round 1. Forty-three-year-old Nelson is also looking to get back in the win column after losing his last three fights in a row including a knockout suffered against Sergei Kharitonov and a unanimous decision defeat against Mirko Filipović back in February.
The Mir vs. Nelson fight is part of a stacked double-header this weekend. Bellator 232: MacDonald vs. Lima 2 is the second portion of the doubleheader which takes place on Saturday, October 26.
