Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards to headline UFC San Antonio
After much speculation, UFC San Antonio has a main event.
According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, the card will be headlined by a welterweight clash between Rafael dos Anjos (29-11 MMA) and Leon Edwards (17-3 MMA).
Dos Anjos most recently snapped a two-fight losing skid when he submitted Kevin Lee last month at UFC Rochester. This pushed the former lightweight champion’s record to 4-2 since moving up to welterweight in 2017.
Main event for UFC on ESPN 4 in San Antonio finalized: It will be Rafael dos Anjos vs Leon Edwards, five rounds. UFC wanted Blachowicz-Rockhold to move there, but Rockhold is filming a Ralph Lauren Polo commercial that day which couldn’t be moved.

Edwards was last seen in action in March when he took a split-decision over Gunnar Nelson in London. After the event, Edwards had an altercation with Jorge Masvidal that led to Masvidal coming to blows and landing the now infamous “three-piece and a soda”.
The victory over Nelson extended Edwards’ win streak to seven straight.
UFC San Antonio was briefly rumored to be headlined by a title bout between Liz Carmouche and flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko. It was then alleged that Luke Rockhold and Jan Blachowicz would be moved from UFC 239 to Texas. But a modeling gig seems to have kept Rockhold from committing to the change.
On top of a main event, MMA Fighting confirmed earlier today that UFC San Antonio would also get a tilt between two top fifteen lightweights.
Alexander Hernandez (10-2 MMA) will be looking to get back into the win column when he meets Francisco Trinaldo (23-6 MMA).
Hernandez made his name known in just 42 seconds when he knocked out Beneil Dariush as a short notice replacement last year. He then took out Olivier Aubin-Mercier before falling to Donald Cerrone in January.
Trinaldo has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights. The Brazilian was supposed to take on Diego Ferreira last month, but a weight cutting issue forced Ferreira from the fight.
UFC San Antonio is scheduled to go down July 20th at the AT&T Center.
