Charlie Johnson wants Tyler Milner in first Alaska FC title defense

Read Time:2 Minute, 42 Second

“Chainsaw” Charlie Johnson recently captured the Alaska FC welterweight championship, and he’s now focused on defending it as soon as possible.

Although Johnson won in dominant fashion at Alaska FC 148, he has felt like the champion for a while. “I just haven’t had the belt to make the claim, but I’ve always felt like it was my belt to have,” said Johnson. Now, he wants to defend the title against his original opponent, Tyler Milner.

“I didn’t want to hang my head on it [about last minute opponent change]. Tyler is skilled and I was really looking forward to fighting him. I think winning the belt against him would have been solidifying in a way.”

Opponent changes are nothing new to “Chainsaw,” he has them often, so fighting Jason Flowers was disappointing – but it wasn’t new. With the call out of Milner, Johnson is hoping he can get a quick turnaround fight to make up for lost time. “He’s my original opponent and I’d like to defend against him or anybody really,” said Johnson. Milner is an experienced fighter and it goes without saying, tough opponents attract the Alaskan scrapper.

Before winning the title, Johnson went through injuries that kept him out of the game. “I said if you’re not where you want to be by the time you’re 25, hang it up.” Injuries led to trying times and Charlie questioning his commitment to mixed martial arts. On top of struggling to find an opponent, Johnson shared, “It was trying, it tested my will a little bit. I had to be honest with myself.”

After loosing his first title fight with the promotion, beating Flowers and claiming the championship reignited his love for competing. Charlie felt like he finally accomplished what he intended.

On his quest towards greatness, Johnson knows that time away from family is difficult, so every second in the gym counts. He’s fully focused, noticed he was ahead of where he thought he’d be in the sport, and continued to train hard. Now, he’s determined to stay active and eventually move up to the big league – so he’ll take any fight he can get.

Although Charlie feels obligated to defend his championship, he’s willing to jump on any opportunity.

“I’m going to keep working hard and keep winning. That’s all I can control.”

“Chainsaw” was in contact with Contender Series and having to pass up the opportunity of a lifetime due to injury, Johnson is now healthy and could potentially be featured on an upcoming episode or season of the show. Until then, he’s hungrier than ever and wants to fight again, as quick as possible.

It’s winning season for Johnson, and when it’s all said and done, he simply just wants people to watch him fight.
