Jay Perrin looks to finish Contender Series opponent within two rounds
New England’s Jay Perrin (8-3 MMA) gets his Contender Series debut against Dwight Joseph (9-1 MMA). The two meet in Las Vegas for season three of DWTNCS on ESPN+.
Perrin is heading into the bout on a 5-fight win streak after defending his Cage Titans bantamweight championship for the first time. He now looks to earn his UFC contract with a win over Joseph inside the TUF Gym. Although his opponent is 9-1 in mixed martial arts, Jay believes he is undisciplined. “He’s very wild and hits really hard, so he’s going to try his best to knock me out really really fast,” said Perrin.
With Joseph’s history, Perrin knows the first minute of the fight will be the most dangerous. However, after the first round, he doesn’t see how Dwight will be able to compete with him technique-wise. “I’ve seen some spectacular stuff happen and that person did not get picked,” said Perrin. “Really, I need to do something that will finish in spectacular fashion.” Jay understands that if Dwight doesn’t go to bed right away, he needs to put on a “three-round a*s whooping,” in order to capture Dana White’s attention.
The bantamweight fighter doesn’t care how he get’s it done. He just knows that his opponent needs to go to sleep one way or another. “It’s going to happen in the first two rounds, a finish of some sort,” said Perrin. Although Jay is on the verge of his most high-profile fight to date, he’s enjoying the fruits of his labor, all the hard work that has led him to this opportunity.
Perrin knew that if he was going to make it in MMA, it was going to be hard. However, if he wanted something bad enough and worked hard enough for it, he’d get somewhere. Although Jay felt slept on for a moment in his career, he loved mixed martial arts enough to fully pursue his dreams. Now he gets to showcase his skills on the biggest platform possible, further putting New England on the MMA map.
Jay wants to display he’s one of the best in the world, in the best way possible come August 6th. On the night of his Contender Series debut, Perrin is confident that he’ll walk out with both a UFC contract and performance bonus.
