Walt Harris vs. Aleksei Oleinik and more announced for UFC San Antonio
The San Antonio Express has announced a plethora of fights for the upcoming UFC card in Texas.
In a bout that could have big implications for the still-developing division, Roxanne Modafferi (23-15 MMA) will meet Liz Carmouche (13-6 MMA) at flyweight.
Carmouche is currently on a two-fight win streak after losing a split decision to Alexis Davis in her 125lb debut. Her last outing saw her pick up a hard-fought decision over Lucie Pudilova in the promotion’s debut in the Czech Republic earlier this year.
Modafferi was last seen upsetting Antonina Shevchenko in Russia about a month ago. “The Happy Warrior” has alternated wins and losses since joining the promotion in 2017.
Also being reported, a fight that was expected to take place last month has been rescheduled for San Antonio. Walt Harris (12-7 MMA) was booked to meet Aleksei Oleinik ( 57-12-1 MMA) at UFC Sunrise, but Oleinik was pulled to headline UFC St. Petersburg against Alistair Overeem on short notice.
Oleinik would lose that one via first-round KO.
Harris was then moved to the UFC Ottowa card where he dispatched of Octagon newcomer Sergey Spivak in just under a minute two weeks ago.
Another former women’s bantamweight title challenger will also be heading to the Longhorn state this summer. Raquel Pennington (9-7 MMA) will face the rising Irene Aldana (10-4 MMA) in an important 135-pound tilt.
After one-sided mauling at the hands of current champ Amanda Nunes last spring, Pennington went on to lose a decision to Germaine de Randamie last November. Aldana, on the other hand, is on a three-fight winning streak and picked up her biggest win over Bethe Correia with a third-round armbar at UFC 237.
“Smiling” Sam Alvey vs Klidson Abreu, Alex Caceres vs Steven Peterson, Domingo Pilarte vs Felipe Colares and Mario Bautista vs Jin Soo Son have all been added to the card.
UFC San Antonio goes down July 20th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. This will mark the promotion’s first time in Texas since June of 2014.
