SmackDown Live on Fox: A fresh start for WWE
In October, SmackDown will be making a huge jump moving to Fox. This has potential to be a really good move, not only for the brand and superstars, but for WWE in general.
Let’s look at the facts. Fox has a much bigger audience than the USA Network. WWE can gain more viewers as well as new viewers and bring in a lot more money, only if booked properly. There are also rumors being tossed around for the debut.
Fox wants an edgy product.
This is something we can all get behind, as we can see more blood or hardcore stuff that we are missing nowadays.
It will be 3 hours like Raw.
This should not happen, because we all watch Raw and we all know how that last hour drags. Also, we see how successful SmackDown has been with 2 hours. Let’s keep it like that.
It’s supposed to be back on Friday night, live.
I am really all for this, especially because it will stay live. Having a break after Raw can really help us, the viewers, because we won’t be tired of watching so much in succession. The SmackDown after WrestleMania was pretty dead because we were all tired from watching 8 hours of WrestleMania, 3 hours of Raw, and then 2 more hours of SmackDown.
WWE is also creating a new network to talk about WWE.
Fox sports has many talkshows that discuss all in sports, and for them to add WWE to that mixture, will bring more fans to the product. There are more ads during baseball games, talk shows, and all other sports promoting WWE coming to Fox. This will bring many new viewers. With these ads you see superstars such as John Cena and The Undertaker on them. This is good and bad because people know of John Cena and The Undertaker more than other superstars, so maybe this will draw their attention to the show, but it should be a one-night appearance for the first night on the new channel. WWE needs to make new names and not keep focusing on the past, no matter how popular the stars are.
This move could be a new beginning for SmackDown and maybe even WWE overall. The current product in recent weeks has not been the greatest, it has been stale and somewhat boring, so hopefully by SmackDown going to Fox, the WWE will pick up and put on some really good shows. We can see new talent from an NXT be called up and book correctly and also have many new faces being pushed to the best of their abilities.
With AEW lurking on the horizon, WWE should be putting on the best TV product they can right now. More competition should equal better wrestling in general. Hopefully Vince and the rest of the WWE crew can step up their game for the debut of SmackDown on Fox this Fall.
