Next matches to make for winners and losers of UFC Philadelphia: Barboza vs Gaethje
Edson Barboza and Justin Gaethje delivered with their scrap at UFC Philadelphia.
In the co-main we saw Jack Hermansson defeat David Branch via submission in round 1. We also got to see phenomenal performances by Michelle Waterson, Josh Emmett, and Sodiq Yusuff.
Who should the winners and losers of UFC Philadelphia meet next?
1. Desmond Green def. Ross Pearson via TKO in round 1.
Desmond Green: This is a big win for Green. He hadn’t landed any kind of finish inside the Octagon in over 3 years, until now. Green is 2-2 in his last two fights. I think he should go back to the drawing board, take some time to train and wait for an opponent. He looked good in there but he’s in the 155-pound division, one of the deepest divisions in the UFC.
Let’s see Green vs. Joe Duffy next. That would be a good scrap!
Ross Pearson: Pearson is now 2-7 in his last 9 fights in the UFC. And he’s lost his last two fights in a row. The UFC tends to think about cutting fighters after 3-4 losing skids, so I would hope Pearson takes some time off to figure out his next move and work on his game.
2. Michelle Waterson def. Karolina Kowalkiewicz via unanimous decision.
Waterson looked great in this fight. Her cardio really held up through 15 minutes. She was mobile pretty much the entire fight.
Michelle Waterson: Waterson should be taking a top 5 opponent in her division next. Whoever may be available. This win makes it 3 in a row for the Karate Hottie. Her next fight should be a #1 contender fight with whoever else is right there in the division. If not that, could be a title shot, well see.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz: Kowalkiewicz has now dropped her last two fights, one by knockout and this one by unanimous decision. I would like to see her take some time off to train hard and work on her game. Take another opponent later in the year.
3. Jack Hermansson def. David Branch via submission in round 1.
Hermansson looked very good in this fight. He was able to tap Branch in less than a minute into the first round.
Hermansson: Hermansson should fight another top-15 opponent next. This win makes it 3 in a row for Hermansson. Let’s see Hermansson vs another ranked opponent next and see what he’s got.
Branch: Branch is now 0-2 in his last two fights in the UFC. Let’s see him take some time off and train hard so that he can come back stronger than ever. Maybe Branch vs Uriah Hall for his return… we’ll see.
4. Justin Gaethje def. Edson Barboza via knockout in round 1.
Gaethje landed a huge win last night with a first round knockout victory over top lightweight contender Edson Barboza.
Gaethje: Let’s see Gaethje vs the winner of Iaquinta and Cowboy!
Barboza: Now 1-3 in his last four fights, let’s see Barboza take some time off to train.
