WWE reintroducing intergender matches with Nia Jax vs. Dean Ambrose at live event
Nia Jax surprised the WWE Universe during the men’s Royal Rumble, taking out the #30 entrant R-Truth and entering the match in his place.
Jax would then hold her own against the men, eliminating Mustafa Ali before eventually getting eliminated by Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio. Then, two weeks ago on an episode of Monday Night Raw, Dean Ambrose sat in the ring after a loss to Seth Rollins to cut a promo which was interrupted by Jax and Tamina. Jax and Ambrose exchanged some words in the ring before Jax hit him in the back of the head with a forearm.
What was thought to be a one-time deal, may eventually lead to something bigger in the women’s revolution. WWE has recently scheduled an intergender match on February 22 in a live event taking place in Jonesboro, Arkansas. For many years, WWE has not allowed male and female superstars to wrestle one another and the match between Ambrose and Jax may highlight a major change coming for the organization this year.
In 2017, WWE promoted some intergender matches like James Ellsworth vs Becky Lynch and Ellsworth vs Asuka, however, it was more for comedic relief. With the news of Ambrose not re-signing with the company, rumors began to circulate that Jax would embarrass Ambrose on his way out, however, only time will tell what the WWE decides to do with the Ambrose/Jax angle and future intergender matches.
WWE is going to get attention with the idea of introducing intergender wrestling and although they won’t be the first to do it, they will be the biggest organization to schedule such match.
