Cris Cyborg vs. Megan Anderson title fight slated for UFC 214

As reported by MMAFighting.com, Cris Cyborg is expected to get her title shot against current Invicta FC featherweight champion, Megan Anderson under the UFC banner. This will mark Cyborg’s first fight at 145-pounds.
It is still unclear how the promotion will handle getting the belt off Germaine de Randamie, as she became the inaugural champion in February when she defeated Holly Holm via a controversial decision. Since then, she has been inactive. Most recently, de Randamie faced the media after months of silence refusing to fight known “cheater,” Cris Cyborg. She also said she was going to focus on returning to the 135-pound division as well, which leaves the UFC with the fight that should have happened to begin with.
Cyborg (17-1, 1 NC), considered the best featherweight of all time, hasn’t fought since her September win over Lina Lansberg. She was provisionally suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in December, but was later granted a retroactive therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Anderson (8-2) became the Invicta featherweight champion after defeating Charmaine Tweet via knockout. Since then, she’s been actively campaigning for a UFC contract and a shot at the most dangerous female on the planet.
What does this fight mean to the UFC’s 145-pound division?
At first, the fate of this division was unknown, however, it seems like the UFC is committed and ready to move forward. I don’t expect many 145-pound fighters to be signed immediately after the fight, however, I do see many woman moving up in weight to help cement this division. What will be most interesting, is what the UFC will do after this fight.
