The Monster in the Bank will be your new WWE Universal Champion
Braun Strowman will cash in his Money in the Bank contract on Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title. It was stated live on Monday Night Raw that Brock Lesnar will defend his WWE Universal Championship at WWE SummerSlam Sunday, August 19th, or be stripped of his title all together. Raw General Manager Kurt Angle set up a series of matches to take place to determine who would face Lesner at SummerSlam for the title. A number of superstars put their name forward expressing their desire for this opportunity. Braun Strowman was not one of these superstars.
Two triple threat matches, producing the winners of Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley, set up a rematch between the two heated rivals for a chance at Brock’s title at SummerSlam. Roman Reigns later defeated Bobby Lashley to earn the right to face Brock Lesner for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
In an interview with Renee Young during Raw, Strowman replied, “I’m the Monster in the Bank” when responding to why he did not put his name in to earn a title shot on Raw. Strowman technically has a title shot whenever he wants it. He later spoke in a promo of his plans to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on whoever is the champion, after SummerSlam.
Somehow, Kevin Owens managed to get in the mix, convincing Stephanie McMahon to give him a match at SummerSlam against Strowman, with the winner walking away with the Money in the Bank contract. Owens also managed to work in that it does not matter how the win comes, by way of pin, submission, count out, disqualification, you name it, it counts. Even with this hiccup, I believe Braun still wins this match with Kevin Owens, and retains his Money in the Bank contract.
At SummerSlam, Roman Reigns will lose to Brock Lesner. This is when the Monster steps in, cashing in his contract and go on to win the WWE Universal Championship. This makes a perfect exit for Brock Lesnar, as he aims to fight Daniel Cormier for the undisputed UFC heavyweight championship. Paul Heyman made claims that Lesnar hoped to represent the WWE as the Universal Champion to become a champion in multiple organizations. No doubt this would be historic, but I believe the Monster in the Bank has his own interests in mind. Long story short, Brock is going to, “Get These Hands”.
