The Future of Kota Ibushi

Read Time:2 Minute, 29 Second

There are several big free agents in wrestling right now, and one of those names is Kota Ibushi. Wrestling fans from all over the world are discussing what his future could look like, and what his next move will be. Kota himself has also given some hints…

There are two clear paths for Kota and his future, and both are very likely to happen because of how hard to read he has always been. You truly never know what will he do next.

Wrestling School & Freelancing

Right after Kota Ibushi’s contract with NJPW ended, he mentioned his intentions of opening his own wrestling school. We’ve seen on social media that his up-and-coming wrestling school is still in the initial stages. He wants to focus most of his time and attention on getting it up and running. However, this will take a lot of Ibushi’s free time.

Besides opening his own wrestling school, Ibushi has taken some indie bookings and plans to take some more indie booking when he is free. This seems to be the path Ibushi will take, at least for now, until his school is ready. It will also help Ibushi on a more personal level, as he has always been a free spirit. This probably means it will take a long time until Ibushi decides on his future and signs with any major promotion.

AEW & Kenny Omega

We can’t discard Kota signing with a big promotion, and for some, AEW seems like the right place for him. As mentioned before, Ibushi wants time to get his wrestling school ready and have time to manage it. AEW isn’t strange to something like this, and has a perfect example with Bandido and his own wrestling school. Bandido has also being given the time to run it when needed. Ibushi would have the time, but also more resources to opening it faster.

Another factor to this equation is obviously, Kenny Omega. Omega could be the definitive factor of Ibushi signing with AEW, but this comes with a catch though. We don’t know what Kenny Omega’s plans for the future are, especially with him being on the last year of his contract and WWE knocking really hard on his door recently. Omega has mentioned before he isn’t really interested on working with WWE, but people can their minds. Some reports indicate that…

Omega staying in AEW could open the door for Ibushi, and open an opportunity for the Golden Lovers to reunite. Both men have always wanted to have their final match against each other on the biggest platform available, and this could be it.

Kota Ibushi is hard to read, and we really don’t know what the future will look like, especially when there are other factors involved like Omega’s AEW status. But with WWE interested in signing Kota as a future star, there is always “dangerous” plans of WWE opening a NXT Japan.

What do you think… Where does Kota Ibushi land?
