Jon Moxley: The Ace of AEW

Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

AEW recently announced the extension of Jon Moxley’s contract, keeping him tied to the promotion until 2027. AEW securing the services of their ace is a major win, especially after several months of backstage turmoil. With this new contract, Moxley will also have the role of mentoring and coaching wrestlers…

Keeping Moxley should help AEW give wrestlers and fans the perception of long-term planning and security. It all comes at the perfect time too; right after the recent controversies’ backstage, and ahead of AEW getting their new TV contract. Securing Moxley is also a great look for TV execs who could be looking at other companies that could offer AEW a new deal on another channel.

Jon Moxley was one of the big major free agent signings, and since day one, he has been the ace of AEW. When the promotion needed him, he has delivered to the best of his abilities. In 2022, after CM Punk’s injury as World Champion, Moxley had a tremendous run as Interim Champion. It truly helped carry the promotion in such weird times…

It should go without saying, but Moxley has had a tremendous run in AEW. At times, he has been the backstage leader and the ace they needed him to be. Keeping Moxley also ends any speculation of him heading back to WWE like some fans hoped. WWE getting Mox back would’ve been a huge blow to AEW, on the same level as Cody’s departure was this year.

Moxley has made it no secret that he does not have any intentions of returning to WWE, and has enjoyed his run with AEW, NJPW and the U.S. indies. He ended any possible debate of him leaving AEW now, and it shows that he believes in the promotion on a long-term level.
