Cody Durden visualizes stoppage victory ahead of clash with JP Buys: ‘He has a very weak mind’

Cody Durden enters fight week with one thing on his mind, and that one thing is stopping JP Buys ahead of their flyweight clash in Las Vegas.
The UFC will keep going with their hectic schedule and hope the momentum of exceptional fights rides back into the Apex this Saturday. As it stands, UFC Vegas 57 consists of 12-gripping contests, with Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot headlining the fight card.
We had the opportunity of speaking with one man among the action in Cody Durden. Durden stands at (13-4-1) in his professional career and will be determined to right the wrong after a disappointing result in London against Muhammad Mokaev.

Interview With Cody Durden
We approach your second fight night of 2022, and the turn-around is relatively quick. After London, was the plan always to get back in there whenever the UFC called? Talk me through the decision to get hunting again…
I’m always down for a good fight. I have never turned down a UFC fight. This is all I do. Fighting is how I survive and put food on the table for my family. You can only fight for so long, so you have to get after it. I’m excited to get back in the cage and put on a beautiful performance that I know I am capable of doing.
On the topic of London and your fight with Mo, was he more than you expected when inside the Octagon? Can you sum up how the whole experience was for you fighting overseas, in a hostile environment, sold-out crowd, etc.? Do you feel that played a factor in the outcome of the fight?
I had a great training camp for the fight with Mokaev. He is a young savage who caught me earlier in the fight. I didn’t get the results I wanted, but it was an amazing experience. The fans are unbelievable. They treated me like royalty. I would love to go back and avenge that loss with a win in London!
Cody Durden talks Preparation
Have you switched anything up in preparation for your upcoming fight with JP Buys as opposed to your last camp? Any new additions to your training schedule, new bodies you’ve worked with, or have things stayed the same as normal?
I’ve stayed training after that loss in my hometown gym American Top Team – Team Lima. I went down to American Top Team Coconut Creek about six weeks before my fight to strictly focus on winning this fight with no distractions. The coaches and training partners down there are amazing. Tony Gravely, Sal guiro, Juan Puerta, Danny Sabatello and a ton of world champions that I got to train with every day made me a better fighter. You have to learn, or you will fall behind quickly.
How much does it mean to you to represent the ATT banner and have the world’s best at your disposal? Still, even at 31 and inside the UFC, walking in those doors is not only motivating but inspiring each and every day?
I’m definitely loyal to ATT and ATT-Team Lima. The results speak for themselves. I’m blessed to be able to train alongside multiple world champions day in and day out.
Expectations
Since entering the UFC, JP Buys has had a tough time and has failed to pick up his first victory. He recently stated he’s coming in with “a point to prove.” What exactly are you expecting JP to bring to the Octagon on June 25th?
I’m expecting him to try and get it to the ground as quickly as possible. My striking is good, and my ground game is good. I prepared to fight anywhere but expect me to be the one controlling the fight.
Assuming you’ve watched JP’s last couple of contests, where do you feel he’s going wrong, and finally how do you view his overall skill-set? Anything you feel he does well, perhaps not so great?
He has a very weak mind. He is always looking for a foul, eye poke, or an easy win, and he won a fight prior to the UFC via an illegal strike to the back of the head. It was all an act. It wasn’t even a hard shot. I believe in my heart that I will finish him.
Lastly, what can fans expect from Cody Durden on June 25th and how does he get it done?
You can expect an amazing fight in the first round, but after that, I will control everything about the fight. Cody Durden defeats JP Buys via 2nd round TKO.
