Dominique Wooding believes a UFC contract is next: ‘It can’t be denied’
Dominique Wooding only needed 38 seconds to make a case for a UFC contract, as he stopped Carlos Abreau in the first round at Cage Warriors 132. While the 25-year-old expected to have his hand raised, Wooding surprised himself with the performance
“Honestly speaking going into that fight didn’t expect to finish him that quick,” Wooding told The Scrap. “I thought it was going to maybe be towards the end of the first round beginning of the second round. But obviously got the job done and did it in in fantastic fashion. And he put him in his place and decimated him.”
Wooding (9-4) not only made the first successful defense of his Cage Warriors135-pound title, but it marked his third straight win since he was released from Bellator late last year. The Great Britain Top Team product has now finished his last three opponents.
“My year started in June. I signed for Cage Warriors In April,” Wooding explained. “I had my first fight for Cage Warriors in June. So within a six-month period, look what I’ve done. I’ve not seen that one in the UK MMA scene, do that kind of thing. Like within a six-month period, have your debut fight, fight for a title then defend it within six months.”
With the UFC returning to London on March 19, Wooding finds himself in an ideal situation as Cage Warriors plans to hold an event the night before.
“The feedback (from the win) is still going on,” Wooding said. “Even my phone’s is still blowing up right now. Just got a lot of supporters messaging me ‘Are you going to get a contract?’ and I’m just like I don’t know. I’ve not heard anything yet. So management’s working on it to just hoping and praying that I get a contract. And it’s like the way I finished that last one it can’t be denied.”
