5 Pro Wrestlers Hollywood should do Biopics on
The worlds of pro-wrestling and Hollywood have been intertwined on more than one occasion. A lot of pro-wrestlers transition into acting careers once their days in the ring are other, even the biggest star in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson, was a third-generation wrestler.
The world of pro-wrestling has a lot of interesting stories to tell and Hollywood could easily make biopics on these stories.
The Von Erichs
If you are not familiar with the story of The Von Erichs, you should definitely check out the Dark Side of The Ring episode about them. This wrestling family has an interesting story and it could easily be a box office success. However, one of the downsides would be producers changing parts of the real life events.
Ric Flair
Ric Flair is considered by many the G.O.A.T. of pro-wrestling. A movie about Flair is just waiting to happen. He has lived an interesting life and a movie about him would be amazing. In addition to all this, Flair loves being the center of attention so a movie about him would get his approval. ESPN produced an episode of 30 For 30 about his life a few years ago worth checking out.
David Schultz
David Schultz undoubtedly gained a lot notoriety when he slapped reporter John Stossel but there’s a whole episode of Dark Side of The Ring about that. What a movie about him should be about is of his days a a bounty hunter. Dr. D has a lot of interesting stories about his days as a bounty hunter. Although, a TV show could also work as well.
Jesse Ventura
In 1999, NBC produced a terrible movie that did not do justice to Jesse Ventura’s story. Because of the first movie being terrible, this the perfect time for Hollywood to produce a new movie about him. Ventura’s transition from pro wrestler to commentator and then to the governor of Minnesota feels like a script someone wrote.
Ethel Johnson
Ethel Johnson was the first African-American women’s wrestler and she is one of the many unsung heroes in the world of pro-wrestling. Johnson was a fan favorite in the 1950s thanks to her athleticism and great in-ring work. In 2016, Johnson was featured in the documentary Lady Wrestler: The Amazing, Untold Story of African-American in the ring. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.
