5 Must-See Pro Wrestling Returns in 2025

Read Time:3 Minute, 57 Second

Few moments in professional wrestling match the excitement of a big return. These comebacks often spark massive reactions from the crowd, paired with the hope the returning star will deliver something fresh to the product. While wrestling is no stranger to epic returns, each one has the potential to create unforgettable memories.

With that in mind, here are five returns we’re hoping to see in 2025.

Charlotte Flair

The ‘Queen’ has been posting training videos and recovery updates on social media. Signaling her return to action after an 11-month hiatus due to a knee injury. Widely regarded as one of the best pro wrestlers in the industry, Charlotte Flair’s absence has been felt. With the road to WrestleMania approaching, it’s hard to imagine WWE leaving her out of such a monumental event. The question remains: how will Flair make her return, and on which brand? Personally, I’d capitalize on the buzz by incorporating her comeback into WWE’s Netflix premiere in some capacity.

Kenny Omega

Most wrestling fans are aware that Kenny Omega will make his highly anticipated return on January 5th at Wrestle Dynasty in Tokyo. However, the bigger question is when he’ll return to regular AEW programming, whether on DynamiteCollision, or a PPV. AEW is banking on Omega’s return to create a significant impact on U.S. television as he transitions back to a full schedule. “The Cleaner” has been sidelined since December 2023 after a life-threatening battle with diverticulitis. After undergoing surgery in May, Omega has been preparing for his return ever since. To ensure his comeback resonates with fans, AEW must position Omega in the perfect storyline. They have to make sure his reentry into the spotlight is impactful and memorable.

Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon may not currently be signed with any promotion, but AEW could be the perfect fit for him. Following his highly publicized meeting with Tony Khan, rumors of Shane joining AEW ran rampant, though they’ve since cooled. However, AEW has the chance to craft an unforgettable debut. Imagine this: Jon Moxley has been running rampant as AEW Champion, claiming he’s taking the company over and making it great again. What if Shane-O-Mac is revealed as the mastermind behind Moxley’s reign of dominance? The fans would cheer initially… Only for those cheers to turn into deafening boos once Shane aligns himself fully with Mox.

Bryan Danielson

This feels like the easiest return to book. After being ousted from the Blackpool Combat Club and losing his title to Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson could return to confront Moxley and seek revenge. Despite being retired and considering neck surgery, The American Dragon might have one more feud left in him. By surrounding him with stars like Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, and Kenny Omega, AEW could limit the physical toll on Danielson while positioning him as the savior determined to end Moxley’s reign of tyranny.

Nick Aldis

Nick Aldis is currently thriving as the General Manager of SmackDown. Many believe he looks to be just one confrontation away from stepping back into the ring. The former NWA and TNA World Heavyweight Champion last competed in October 2023. While Aldis has expressed gratitude for fans’ interest in his in-ring return, he insists it’s not his current focus. For his comeback to truly resonate, it would need to be crafted with careful precision. He wants it to catch fans off guard, rather than being something they see coming.

Honorable Mention: Lucha Brothers

Fans eagerly await the Lucha Brothers’ transition from AEW to WWE. But how will they make their grand debut in the squared circle? The anticipation has only grown since news broke of El Penta and Rey Fenix signing a multi-year deal with WWE. While they’re expected to start in NXT, their eventual arrival on the main roster could make a huge splash—especially during WWE’s inaugural Netflix airing. Picture this: The Judgment Day is in the ring, boasting about their dominance and claiming there are no challengers left. Suddenly, the Lucha Brothers’ music hits, igniting an electrifying moment that sets the stage for an impactful debut and a high-quality feud.

Returns in wrestling are always a thrill to witness, with some becoming iconic moments in history (like the Hardy Boyz at WrestleMania 33). However, for a return to truly resonate, it needs a clear direction and a compelling storyline to sustain its impact. While AEW and WWE boast stacked rosters, some fans might see big returns as unnecessary. Yet, true wrestling fans know the magic of a well-executed return done the right way.
