The Scrap’s 2022 MMA Writer of the Year: Katie Vega
The Scrap’s MMA is such an important award for the site. With MMA being one of the core sports we began to cover, it’s been around since the site’s inception and has consistently remained the largest archive of content The Scrap owns. It’s also the hardest one to stand out in, with the site having many MMA writers on staff, and a ton of competition in the media space.
After having our biggest year to date at The Scrap, it’s only right that we stop to give flowers to our leading lady. Not only did she produce the most creative content, she won two seasons of The Ultimate Writer back-to-back, setting new records on the site. No one stood out more in 2022 than our MMA Writer of the Year, Katie Vega.
Honorable Mentions: Shawn Bitter, Lewis Simpson & Steven Rae
Katie Vega was a new addition to the team in 2021, coming in at the perfect time. Since she has come on board, she has consistently put forth a ton of content for our MMA and Pro Wrestling wings. She has not only helped the site’s viewership grow, she has also helped build our stacked team with quality recruits.
Katie consistently highlights the MMA scene from back home in Puerto Rico and gives the regional scene the full attention it deserves.
From her Ready 4 The Call column with Shawn Bitter, to the creation of her original Homeland Prospects column, Vega never fails to impress us, giving us her most creative/original pieces time and time again.
We’re super excited to see what 2023 brings for The Scrap’s First Lady.
No one was more deserving of this award than Katie Vega!
