The Scrap’s 2020 Article of the Year: Zhang Weili, Fashion Icon
The pandemic brought out the creativity for The Scrap staff, making this award category one of the toughest to narrow down on. However, there was one article that stood out from the rest β one that was a first for our site.
Rory Robinson’s “Zhang Weili, Fashion Icon” is The Scrap’s Article of the Year.
Honorable Mentions: “7 Puerto Rican MMA fighter you should know about” by Katie Vega, “Regional Resumes: Names to consider for DWCS after dominant wins in 2020” by Connor Rogowsky and “Seven of the biggest fights MMA fans never got to see” by Brandon Siby.
The article painted UFC’s newest strawweight champion, Zhang Weili in a different light, outside of the fight game. I think it’s extremely important for the MMA media to this as much as possible, when able. Not only does it help fight the stigma of fighting, but it allows fans to connect with a fighter more than they probably ever thought they could.
Zhang Weili doesn't get enough credit for how swaggy she is.
Might be the most lit when it comes to fashion in all of MMA. She stunts by accident..
I know yall don't get it cause you don't know the significance of her pieces but wow.#UFCBoston

Rory had some great content in 2020, but none topped this piece which seemed to have been inspired from his tweet back in October 2019. We’re extremely excited to have it as part of The Scrap’s history forever.
