11 Matches We Want to See at Evolution 2
After nearly six years since the inaugural event, Evolution 2 is finally set to return this July. With so many WWE events happening around the same time—some even on the same day—it’s the perfect moment to explore potential matchups for the long-awaited all-women’s PLE.
NXT Great American Bash 2025 takes place the night before, so don’t be surprised if a match is made during that show, much like how Dominik Mysterio vs. Octagón Jr. was set up at Worlds Collide ahead of Money in the Bank. Because of the timing, we should expect fewer NXT matchups on Evolution 2.
That said, WWE’s pipeline has never been deeper. NXT continues to grow, Evolve has a fresh Women’s Champion, and the partnership with TNA opens the door for exciting crossover opportunities. With the acquisition of AAA, we could even see historic matches featuring talent from Mexico.
Let’s take a look at some realistic matchups that could take place at Evolution 2:
WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Trish Stratus
Trish Stratus is set to return on the June 16 episode of WWE Raw, following her last appearance at WWE Elimination Chamber, where she teamed with Tiffany Stratton to defeat Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. The win marked Trish’s official return to standard in-ring competition since her 2023 run, excluding her appearance in the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble.
But what made the pairing with Tiffany so surprising is their previous on-screen interaction at Money in the Bank 2024. Tiffany had just won the briefcase and was anything but respectful toward the legend. Their exchange went like this:
Trish: “You know, I was gonna say congratulations, but instead, I’m gonna offer you a little piece of advice. Don’t get too ahead of yourself, and don’t be too arrogant, because it’s what happens once you cash that in, that can determine if you’ll be a future Hall of Famer like me. Or just another flash in the pan. Toodles.”
Tiffany: “Aw, Trish, isn’t it a little sad looking at that ring, knowing that Trishy time is no longer? And my time, Tiffy time, that is, has just begun? Toodles.”
Given their history, don’t be surprised if WWE turns this into a match for Evolution 2.
NXT Women’s Championship: Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Jordynne Grace
NXT General Manager Ava announced on the June 10th episode of NXT that Jacy Jayne will defend her title at Evolution. However, her opponent has yet to be determined. A mini-tournament featuring four singles matches will narrow it down to one challenger.
One of the competitors in the tournament is Jordynne Grace, who recently faced Stephanie Vaquer at Battleground. Just days later, Jacy Jayne captured the title and some might argue thanks to Jordynne softening Stephanie up beforehand.
So why not run Jordynne vs. Jacy at Evolution? It would be the perfect opportunity to give Jordynne a title run before she’s eventually called up to the main roster. Out of the “big three” NXT signings this year, she’s the only one who hasn’t held the belt. So, it’s only right…
Fatal Attraction vs. Damage Control
WWE’s women’s tag team division is thin right now, and with the Women’s Tag Team Titles likely not being defended at Evolution 2, we need at least one tag match on the card. Now that Asuka is back, why not reunite her with Kairi Sane to take on Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx?
It would be a fun clash with established main roster stars vs. rising NXT talent. Plus, Evolution 2 is the perfect stage for more cross-promotional matchups like this.
Naomi vs. Bianca Belair
While reports suggest a Naomi vs. Jade Cargill rematch could be slated for the upcoming PLE, a more compelling matchup would be Naomi finally going head-to-head with Bianca Belair. Bianca’s been distant… She’s not answering calls, she’s been avoiding Naomi, and she’s been off TV for a while. But something tells me there’s still more behind Naomi attacking Jade.
Now that Naomi is Ms. Money in the Bank, taking another loss to Jade wouldn’t do her any favors. A loss to Bianca, on the other hand, hits differently because she’s BIANCA. Still, a win for Naomi in that spot would make for a very interesting angle. Knowing WWE though, the match will end in a disqualification, but either way, Naomi vs. Bianca at Evolution would be perfect—a true clash of generations.
Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria vs. Bayley
This matchup feels inevitable. Becky Lynch stole Bayley’s WrestleMania moment. Lyra Valkyria and Becky have been at odds ever since Becky turned on her the night after WrestleMania. Bayley finally returned on the June 9 episode of WWE Raw, attacking Becky to get her revenge.
Now, the women’s “workhorse” championship scene is finally heating up. With Becky and Bayley now in the mix, they add the prestige this title deserves. Whether Lyra is in the match or involved in another way, Evolution 2 feels like the perfect stage for this long-brewing showdown.
Nikki Bella vs. Liv Morgan
Nikki Bella made her return on the June 9th episode of Monday Night Raw. During her promo, Liv Morgan interrupted to confront her for not mentioning her when praising the talent in the division. The fiery exchange quickly went viral, with fans rallying behind it… Even if it wasn’t the direction they expected WWE to take.
All signs now point to Brie Bella returning at Evolution 2, potentially to support Nikki, either during the match or in the aftermath of an attack. Regardless, it looks like we’re finally on the road to a Bella Twins Tag Team Championship run. If their upcoming showdown is anything like their encounter, which ended with Nikki laid out by an ObLIVion, we’re in for a heated buildup.
Women’s United States Championship: Zelina Vega (c) vs. Giulia
WWE has been hinting at Giulia challenging for the United States Championship, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Zelina Vega’s title reign has been underwhelming at best, largely due to the lack of a strong division to defend against consistently. Week after week, she’s been caught in a repetitive feud with Chelsea Green and the Secret Hervice.
It’s time for something fresh—something that opens the door to new matchups and gives Giulia the spotlight she desperately needs to properly introduce herself to the WWE Universe. If the plan is in motion, the match might as well take place at Evolution 2. Especially if it’s being set up the night before at Saturday Night’s Main Event XL.
Women’s World Championship: IYO SKY (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Roxanne Perez
WWE’s women’s roster is more stacked than ever, which means getting everyone on the Evolution 2 card won’t be easy. Still, like last time, WWE will likely try and multi-woman matches could be the perfect solution.
Picture this: IYO SKY defending her title against Rhea Ripley, and newcomer Roxanne Perez. How WWE builds to it? That’s anyone’s guess, especially with the Queen of the Ring tournament underway. But mixing things up like this would definitely bring some excitement to the card.
Chelsea Green (w/ Secret Hervice) vs. Kelly Kelly
While it would’ve been ideal for Chelsea Green to still be the United States Champion hosting a Divas Only Invitational, an open challenge could still happen—and Evolution 2 would be the perfect place for it.
Kelly Kelly has expressed interest in returning and recently signed a Legends Deal, making her an ideal opponent. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s character work is second to none. She recently signed a new deal with the company and is well on her way to becoming ‘The Female Miz’, just as she’s always aimed to be.
A one-on-one with Chelsea, who would make her look like she hasn’t missed a step, seems like a no-brainer. It adds star power, nostalgia, and a fun generational clash. Plus, Chelsea is a proud fan of the Divas era. This would no doubt be a dream matchup on her bucket list.
Nia Jax vs. Jade Cargill
WWE has been teasing this feud since Jade Cargill first arrived. From matches and heated exchanges to trash talk and constant interference, Nia Jax has consistently had Jade’s number. The “Nia rub” is real. She has helped shape the next generation of WWE Women’s Champions and deserves her flowers for it.
Interestingly, a Nia Jax vs. Jade Cargill matchup was once rumored for WrestleMania 41. While it didn’t not happen on The Grandest Stage, it looks like we may still getting the showdown. Nia is likely to win the Fatal 4-Way for the Queen of the Ring tournament, setting up a must-see clash with Roxanne Perez. That match will pave the way for Nia Jax vs. Jade Cargill at Evolution 2, officially kicking off Jade’s title reign.
Women’s Battle Royal (Winner Earns A Future Championship Opportunity)
Like the original Evolution, including a Women’s Battle Royal feels like a fitting way to ensure more female talent gets a spot on this historic card. It’s not a bad idea, especially if the winner earns a future championship opportunity. Last time, Nia Jax won the match but came up short in her title challenge against Ronda Rousey at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs.
Below is a list of potential surprise returns for the Battle Royal, featuring a mix of NXT standouts, main roster stars, legends, and talent from other promotions:
- Stephanie Vaquer (Raw)
- Lola Vice (NXT)
- Lash Legend (NXT)
- Raquel Rodriguez (Raw)
- Mickie James (WWE LFG Season 1 Coach)
- Michelle McCool (WWE LFG Season 2 Coach)
- Alicia Fox (TNA)
- Paige (Free Agent)
- Kelani Jordan (NXT)
- Jaida Parker (NXT)
